We talk about “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” (1994)

Ace Ventura: “Damn it, Jim! I’m a DOCTOR, not a pool man!”

When Dan Marino’s talented dolphin teammate goes missing, who ya gonna call except the most eccentric pet detective/football ring expert in the business?

On this episode of HIH, the Adams (both young and mature) travel back to The Year of Jim Carrey with Darth and Jason to discuss Ace Ventura Pet Detective! This classic 90s comedy elicits heavy nostalgia for Darth and Young Adam, even though he was a mere fetus when this movie was released. You simply never forget the first time you see a grown man running football plays in a tutu and motorcycle boots.

Even considering such wild antics, your favorite podcasters believe that Ace Ventura might be saner than Sean Young. After all, she molested the poor detective with her einhorn, and she did that BEFORE Ace deadnamed and outted her to the entire Miami police force.

Suffice it to say that Lois and Ace’s relationship is a complicated one at best. Though, in all fairness to Lois, Darth and Jason have to assume that losing your job to a salt water mammal and being professionally foiled by Fire Marshall Bill would drive nearly anyone to madness and murder.

Despite the dismal acting of Dan Marino and the underlying transphobia of the storyline, most people fondly recall Ace Ventura Pet Detective as a light-hearted film full of classic Jim Carrey humor. Don’t be fooled by the movie’s comedic nature; even comedies can teach us important life lessons. If you want to avoid being kidnapped and held hostage, keep the laces out. Most importantly, ALWAYS exercise extreme caution with your dog and you favorite pet detective; Darth and Jason have found you don’t play around with the Funky Cold Medina.

Darth Jader is a Pirate Queen. She is the co-hostess of the “Hindsight is Horrifying” podcast. She is also “funny, insightful, and sarcastic,” according to her boyfriend, who is currently under duress. You can take the Oxford Comma from her when you pry it from her cold, dead, and lifeless hands. She also speaks Spanish, unlike Ron Burgundy.
